Obama ain't a door mat, and if you think he is you're living in an entirely different reality than I am.

An example of why I say doormat is when he allowed the public option to be taken out of the health care bill. Granted, he is not the one who decides whether it's in or not. However, I don't feel like he made enough of a stink about the republicans trying to maintain the private monopoly. I think he became desperate to give American results and ended up sacrificing any real change in the process.

The GOP did a much better job of portraying Obama as a bad guy than vice versa. Who won?

When I say allow, I mean without putting up much of a verbal fight.

Plus, his party had the majority. Why did the minority get their way?

You're entitled to that opinion, but that's not the same as being a door mat.

The point is I'd like to see him get up and say something bad about republicans to the American people. He started saying a few things about a week before the elections... good work, Barry!

Yes, it's not his style. And it's screwed over liberals and given the GOP all the leverage in the world.

No, its not because it wasn't up to him that it would be included. You just said that yourself, man. What the hell.

They've been trying that since the 1950s, I don't think we can say it's Obama's failure when no one else has been able to do it either.

So we can't deem Obama to be a success or failure because the change he promised wasn't under his control. ok

Shit, they all promise change, it's meaningless. The only reason people hold Obama up to his change message is because it's a way to get at him for not being able to change the entire country in the first year of a four year term. Hell, Alex Jones and crowd were jumping on him in March of 2009 that he hasn't kept any of his promises. Name any politician that even comes close. Obama at least has done a better job than many past presidents at that.

It's not a straw man. Your claim is that you can't call Obama's fight for a public option (part of his change) to be a failure because he doesn't make such decisions. So, you're basically saying that he can say whatever he wants, and we can't call him out on it because the system will do what it does.

He has no power of congress other than veto power. What they add and take out of bills is beyond his control, other than him saying what he'd like to see. You're sort of suggesting it's his fault for what congress does.

It's because his whole campaign was built on "yes we can" and "change".

He's a politician, what is surprising to me is that anyone actually thought the president ever had the ability to change as much as Obama said he'd work on. He doesn't and never did, but he's certainly tried, but congress went against what he wanted.

I would respect him if he got on TV and used the failure to get a public option in his favor. Instead, the Republicans not only denied change but also stepped up and stole the House from his party. I feel like he was too passive and kind towards the GOP.

For being such a powerful speaker, he was far too quiet.
