Sarah Palin may have her own TV show, a gig on Fox News, and two books to her name, but there's one thing she is unlikely to add to her resume, according to a number of recent polls: the presidency.

Of course, it's still very, very early. And with nearly two years until Election Day 2012, anything could happen. But in hypothetical matchups with President Obama, Palin consistently polls very poorly. In the last week or so, three national polls found Obama leading her by double digits, including an NBC-Wall Street Journal poll out this week that had Obama crushing her by 22 points, 55% to 33%.

Among the GOP frontrunners for the Republican presidential nomination, Palin has the worst spread in head-to-heads with Obama. The TPM Poll Average has her trailing Obama 51.1%-39.0%. Meanwhile, the TPM Poll Average has Obama tied with former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee at 45.4%. Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney trails Obama by less than half a percentage point, 44.8%-44.5%.

Even Newt Gingrich polls closer to Obama than Palin does. The TPM Poll Average has Obama leading Gingrich 49.0% to 44.8%.

I'm just glad Romney is trailing. He's the only person the GOP has who could possibly give Obama any re-election problems.

But he's a Mormon, so that hurts him in his own party.

Gingrich is just a womanizing liar. I honestly don't think he has any real beliefs.

Gingrich won't run. If he hasn't run by now he's not going to. He just wants to keep interest (such as it is) in himself alive by pretending "not to rule it out" or whatever politicians who don't want to admit they're not running for president say.

I don't think Romney will give Obama much trouble, but he'd be a better candidate than Lipstick Bulldog.

Gingrich has been married three times. In 1962, he married Jackie Battley, his former high school geometry teacher, when he was 19 years old and she was 26. They had two daughters. In the spring of 1980, Gingrich left Battley after having an affair with Marianne Ginther. According to Battley, Gingrich visited her while she was in the hospital recovering from cancer surgery to discuss the details of their divorce. Six months after it was final, Gingrich wed Ginther in 1981.

In the mid-1990s, Gingrich began an affair with House of Representatives staffer Callista Bisek, who is 23 years his junior; they continued their affair during the Lewinsky scandal. In 2000, Gingrich married Bisek shortly after his divorce from second wife Ginther. He and Callista currently live in McLean, Virginia.
