Are you an Okie Matt?

I only ask because I was born there and grew up in Kansas as well. The "Real America" - you know.

Anyway, I moved to California six years ago and haven't been back to the Midwest except for a funeral.

I live in a liberal paradise surrounded by secularists, college grads, and Mexicans. and I'm lovin every minute of it.

I've been working in the non profit sector ever since I got my masters in counseling. I feel really bad for people in red states because mental healthcare is one of the first things that get cut out there.

Wait until the schizophrenics, bi polars, and alcoholics get knocked to the curb because of budget cuts in favor of tax breaks for the rich, etc.

It's going to be a blood bath in my field over the next few months.

In Oklahoma we voted no to increased education funding and yes to the banning of Sharia law.

You decide if these things are related.

I don't know if they're related; but it's tragic.

banning of Sharia law sounds just fine to me (although probably completely unnecessary), but no to increased education funding is quite tragic. And cutting mental healthcare sounds horrible too

I'd be interested to hear the definition of Sharia Law, I have a feeling Okies who voted to ban it actually have no clue what it is. "IT'S SOMETHIN' MUSLIM, LET'S KILL IT"

It's the code of law based on the Quran. Which obviously violates separation of church and state.

So wait, a code of law people live by violates the separatation of church and state how? That's like saying kosher does. It handles things like diet, marriage, divorce, etc and most religions have similar systems, the difference here is there are states (Iran for instance) that try to apply Sharia law as an aspect of the state, but that doesn't automatically mean that Sharia law itself requires it be a part of the state or that Muslims want it to be a part of the state. Sounds like you're channeling Mark Williams, domokato.

Gimmie a break domokato. This was included in my state's proposals for the same reason naming English as the official state language was: culture war.

Oh, I thought it was about banning Sharia Law in the state (like, as actual law), not in personal life. That makes a little more sense. But also less sense. How the hell are you supposed to ban self-imposed laws anyway? lol
