Genuine American Monster Level: 70 CS Original | Jon Stewart was on Larry King Live last night, and didn't let the fact that he was on CNN deter him from criticizing the network. He said to King, who is leaving CNN, "you're the last guy out of a burning building." When King asked later why Stewart picks on CNN so much, Stewart replied that it's because "you're terrible." He called CNN's use of its vast resources a "squandered opportunity," adding: "CNN has an opportunity to be a real arbiter. But being a real arbiter means sometimes taking a stand." Stewart also commented on the network's firing of anchor Rick Sanchez after he said that Stewart is a "bigot," and implied that CNN is run by Jews. Stewart said he didn't think Sanchez should have been fired "with the crap you guys have put on over the last ten years? What are you kidding?" He added that Sanchez is "a ham," but the network shouldn't have used the comments as an excuse if he was doing a bad job. "Do you think I want to see a newsman get tased?" Stewart added. King also asked about Stewart's upcoming "Rally To Restore Sanity" in Washington, D.C. on October 30, which NPR has barred its employees from attending. "As a countermeasure against NPR, to fight back," Stewart said, "I have prohibited my employees from describing events in esoteric terms." "They are guessing it's political" he added, "they are guessing wrong." | |||||
