Kentucky's Republican nominee for Senate, Rand Paul, is running away from his past support for abolishing the federal income tax in favor of a national sales tax, according to reports on the ground in the Bluegrass State.

The move is the latest walkback from the past for Paul, who started out the campaign as some kind of libertarian-tea party hybrid, unafraid to talk on national television about things like the problems he saw in the 1964 Civil Rights Act. Since winning the nomination, however, Paul has headed in pretty much a straight line toward establishment Republican policies when it comes to his campaign rhetoric. The national sales tax shift appears to be part of that trend.

This is kinda unrelated, but your post made me think of something...Does the money from sales taxes go towards paying for things related to commerce like the FTC and the FDA, while the money from income taxes go towards paying for social things like education and law enforcement; or is it all thrown together and budgeted out arbitrarily? I'd prefer the former to the latter...

Because then you have an alignment of where the tax money is coming from and what it's being used for. So that people who buy a lot of crap are directly helping to pay for the regulation of said crap, and people who make a lot of money are helping to pay for the protection of their lives and property and for education and stuff. Okay, I guess income tax doesn't really line up as well, but it just seems to be the most sensible place to tax someone to pay for the operation of social institutions.

Rand sure doesn't have the testicular fortitude of his father. That is unfortunate.

Append the above: deny evolution and hate black people.
Append the above: deny evolution, hate black people, and promote pseudo-science for medical care.

I receive Rand Paul letters in the mail just so I can waste some of his campaign funds.

The people in Princeton would probably vote for him. Trenton, on the other hand...

Zeitgeisters should really look at Ron Paul's voting record before they champion him.

I seriously doubt any of them ever have, or they would stop doing it.

Many of them don't know what a voting record is or how the legislation process works.

Maybe they think the Department of Law does it all, as acknowledged by Sarah Palin.
